WILLIAM DONALD SCHAEFER, Governor
VETOES

BILLS AND MESSAGES

for the

BILLS VETOED

by the

Governor of Maryland

following the
1988 Regular Session
of the
General Assembly of Maryland

NOTE

Eighty bills were vetoed by the Governor following the 1988
Regular Session of the General Assembly. Forty-seven of these
bills originated in the Senate and 33 of them originated in the
House of Delegates. Pursuant to the provisions of Section 17 of
Article II of the Constitution of Maryland, these bills will be
returned to the General Assembly immediately after the
Legislature has organized at the next Regular or Special Session,
to be reconsidered in order to determine whether the veto is
sustained or overridden.

These veto messages include one for Senate Bill 271, which
was signed by the Governor to become Chapter 542. That bill is
the General Construction Loan of 1988, and one item therein was
given a line item veto by the Governor. At the time the other
vetoes are submitted to the General Assembly, the one line item
veto in this bill also will be presented for a vote on sustaining
or overriding the one line item veto in Chapter 542 (Senate Bill
271).
