WILLIAM DONALD SCHAEFER, Governor
WHEREAS, The over-utilization of the Wilson Bridge presents
serious safety problems for motorists particularly during
inclement weather and rush hour traffic; and
WHEREAS, The use of alternative routes to divert traffic
from Interstate Route 95 would not be sufficient to eliminate the
need for additional capacity on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge; and
WHEREAS, The solution to the problem of insufficient
capacity on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge will require the
cooperation of the various jurisdictions involved; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
Maryland Department of Transportation is requested to initiate
all appropriate actions and to cooperate with its counterparts in
Virginia, the District of Columbia, and the appropriate federal
agencies to facilitate the widening of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge
and to make any necessary improvements to enhance its safety, and
be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be forwarded by the
Department of Legislative Reference to the Honorable William
Donald Schaefer, Governor of Maryland; the Honorable Thomas V.
Mike Miller, Jr., President of the Senate of Maryland; and the
Honorable R. Clayton Mitchell, Jr., Speaker of the House of
Delegates; and to the Maryland Congressional Delegation: Senators
Paul S. Sarbanes and Barbara A. Mikulski, Senate Office Building,
Washington, D.C. 20510; Representatives Royden P. Dyson, Helen
