AN ACT concerning

Controlled Dangerous Substances - Cocaine

FOR the purpose of altering the definition of narcotic drug to
include the optical and geometric isomers of cocaine; and
amending the list of substances considered Schedule II
controlled dangerous substances to include certain salts,
isomers, derivatives, compounds, and mixtures.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 27 - Crimes and Punishments

277.

(q) "Narcotic drug" shall mean any of the following,
whether produced directly or indirectly by extraction from
substances of vegetable origin, or independently by means of
chemical synthesis, or by a combination of extraction and
chemical synthesis; and which have been found to present an
extreme danger to the health and welfare of the community because
of their addiction-forming and addiction-sustaining liabilities:

(i) "Opiate" shall mean any substance having an
addiction-forming or addiction-sustaining liability similar to
