SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article 27 - Crimes and Punishments
BURGLAR HOLDUP BURGLARY AND ROBBERY FALSE ALARM
156A.
(A) IN THIS SUBTITLE THE FOLLOWING WORDS HAVE THE MEANINGS
INDICATED.
(B) "ALARM SIGNAL" OR "SIGNALS" MEANS THE ACTIVATION OF AN
ALARM SYSTEM THAT REQUIRES REQUESTS A RESPONSE BY A LAW
ENFORCEMENT AGENCY INDEPENDENT OF CAUSE.
(C) "ALARM SYSTEM" MEANS A BURGLARY ALARM SYSTEM OR A
ROBBERY ALARM SYSTEM.
(C)(1) "ALARM SYSTEM CONTRACTOR" MEANS A PERSON, FIRM,
COMPANY, PARTNERSHIP, OR CORPORATION ENGAGED IN THE INSTALLATION,
MAINTENANCE, MONITORING, ALTERATION, SERVICING, OR SELLING OF
ALARM SYSTEMS OR WHO RESPONDS TO AN ALARM SIGNAL.
(2) "ALARM SYSTEM CONTRACTOR" DOES NOT INCLUDE A
BUSINESS THAT ONLY SELLS OR MANUFACTURES ALARM DEVICES UNLESS THE
BUSINESS SERVICES, INSTALLS, MONITORS, OR RESPONDS TO ALARM
SYSTEMS AT THE PROTECTED PREMISES OR ADVISES THE GENERAL PUBLIC
AS TO TYPE LOCATION OF ALARM DEVICES EXCEPT AS CONTAINED IN THE
MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS.
(C) (D) (1) "ALARM SYSTEM CONTRACTOR" MEANS:
(I) A PERSON ENGAGED IN INSTALLING,
MAINTAINING, MONITORING, ALTERING, OR SERVICING ALARM SYSTEMS; OR
(II) AN AGENCY THAT FURNISHES THE SERVICES OF A
PERSON ENGAGED IN INSTALLING, MAINTAINING, MONITORING, ALTERING,
OR SERVICING ALARM SYSTEMS.
(2) "ALARM SYSTEM CONTRACTOR" DOES NOT INCLUDE A
PERSON WHO ONLY SELLS OR MANUFACTURES ALARM DEVICES UNLESS THAT
PERSON SERVICES, INSTALLS, MONITORS, OR RESPONDS TO ALARM SYSTEMS
AT PROTECTED PREMISES.
