(ii) If the child served in the armed forces,
under 28.

(e)  A recipient of a scholarship under this section may not
be awarded more than [$500] $1,000 each year.

(f)  An award granted under this section:

(1)  May be used for:

(i) Tuition and mandatory fees;
(ii) Room and board; and
(iii) Books and supplies; and

(2)  May be used at any institution approved by the
State Scholarship Board including:

(i) An institution of higher education;

(ii) A vocational school;

(iii) A commercial school; or

(iv) A military preparatory school, if the
child is preparing to attend one of the United States military
academies.

(g)  (1) The scholarship shall be paid on vouchers approved
by the State Scholarship Board.

(2) Room and board of a recipient who lives
off-campus shall be paid on vouchers approved by the institution.

(h) The State Scholarship Board:

(1)  May accept any gift or grant from any person for
the Edward T. Conroy Scholarship Fund;

(2)  Shall use any gift or grant that it receives for
the Program for aid to a needy student who is the recipient of a
scholarship from the Program; and

(3)  Shall deposit any gift or grant that it receives
for the Program with the State Treasurer in a nonbudgeted
account.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1988.
