SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That Section 1 of
this Act shall take effect July 1, 1988 and shall remain
effective until January 1, 1989. On January 1, 1989, and with no
further action required by the General Assembly, Section 1 of
this Act shall be abrogated and of no further force and effect.

SECTION 4. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That Section 2 of
this Act shall take effect January 1, 1989.

AN ACT concerning

Howard County - Collection of Costs from Weekend Prisoners

Ho. Co. 506-88

FOR the purpose of authorizing Howard County to collect a fee for
food and lodging from certain prisoners who are sentenced to
weekend confinement in the Howard County Detention Center
under certain circumstances; defining a term; and
authorizing requiring Howard County to adopt regulations
concerning the collection of fees from certain prisoners in
Howard County.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

645CC.

(A)  IN THIS SECTION, "WEEKEND PRISONER" MEANS A PRISONER
SENTENCED TO THE HOWARD COUNTY DETENTION CENTER FOR
NONCONSECUTIVE PERIODS OF 48 HOURS OR LESS PER WEEK.

(B)  HOWARD COUNTY MAY COLLECT FROM A "WEEKEND PRISONER" A
FEE FOR FOOD AND LODGING, BASED ON THE ABILITY OF THE PRISONER TO
