year for each year that the recipient teaches in that field in
that area.

(d) The State Scholarship [Board] ADMINISTRATION COMMISSION
ADMINISTRATION may promulgate regulations to implement the
provisions of this section.

18-1501.

(a)  There is a program of tuition reimbursement for
retraining teachers under this section.

(b)  Any person who is currently teaching in a Maryland
public school and who agrees, with the consent of the local board
of education, to teach mathematics or science for at least 2
years in a Maryland public school after certification in
mathematics or science may apply for reimbursement from the State
Scholarship [Board] ADMINISTRATION COMMISSION ADMINISTRATION for
tuition costs, not to exceed a total of $1,500, for courses
credited for training towards certification in the areas of
mathematics or science.

(c)  The State Department of Education shall adopt
regulations setting forth criteria for eligibility and standards
for reimbursement in this program.

(d)  The State Scholarship [Board] ADMINISTRATION COMMISSION
ADMINISTRATION shall reimburse a teacher after the teacher has:

(1)  Completed a program approved by the Department of
Education for certification in mathematics or science; and

(2)  Executed a surety bond to this State:

(i) In the total amount of tuition
reimbursement;

(ii) That guarantees to the satisfaction of the

State Scholarship [Board] ADMINISTRATION COMMISSION

ADMINISTRATION that the teacher will teach in a Maryland public
school for at least 2 years after certification; and

(iii) That provides a basis for repayment in
the event of default.

(e)  The State Scholarship [Board] ADMINISTRATION COMMISSION
ADMINISTRATION shall adopt regulations to implement the
provisions of subsection (d) of this section.

(f)  Funds for the tuition reimbursement for teachers
program shall be as provided in the annual budget of the State
Scholarship [board] ADMINISTRATION COMMISSION ADMINISTRATION by
the Governor, and:
