BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 56 - Licenses

Section 439(a)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1983 Replacement Volume and 1987 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 56 - Licenses

432A.

(A)  AN ASSISTANT BARBER LICENSE AUTHORIZES THE LICENSEE TO
ENGAGE IN LIMITED PRACTICES OF BARBERING:

(1)  FOR COMPENSATION;

(2)  UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A LICENSED MASTER BARBER
IN A LICENSED BARBERSHOP; AND

(3)  RESTRICTED TO:

(I)  SHAMPOOING;

(II)  THE REMOVAL OF HAIR SOLUTIONS;

(III)  THE STERILIZATION OF EQUIPMENT; AND

(IV)  SIMILAR ACTIVITIES.

(B)  THE BOARD SHALL ISSUE AN ASSISTANT BARBER LICENSE TO
ANY QUALIFIED PERSON WHO:

(1)  IS AT LEAST 16 YEARS OF AGE; AND

(2)  PAYS THE LICENSE FEE.

(C)  AN ASSISTANT BARBER LICENSE EXPIRES ON THE SECOND MAY
31 OF EACH ODD-NUMBERED YEAR AFTER ITS EFFECTIVE DATE, UNLESS THE
LICENSE IS RENEWED.

(a) A license may not be issued or renewed nor an
application taken until the applicant pays the appropriate fee as
follows:
