53A.
(a) All hotels, motels, and lodging houses shall post a
notice in a prominent place in each guest room containing the
following information.
(1) Location of nearest exits and fire pull stations;
(2) THE AVAILABILITY OF AND PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING A
SMOKE DETECTOR FOR THE DEAF OR HEARING IMPAIRED;
[(2)](3) Procedures to be followed when the fire or
smoke detector gives warning signals; and
[(e)](4) Procedures to be followed in the event of
fire or smoke development.
(b) Any hotel, motel, or lodging house that violates any
regulation adopted by the State Fire Prevention Commission is
subject to the penalties provided in § 13 of this article.
12A.
(a) (4) (I) All hotels and motels, regardless of the number
of units, shall have available at least one smoke detector for
the deaf or hearing impaired for each 50 units or less. The
proprietor may require a refundable deposit for a portable smoke
detector not to exceed the value of the smoke detector.
(II) THE PROPRIETOR OF THE HOTEL OR MOTEL SHALL
POST IN A CONSPICUOUS PLACE AT THE REGISTRATION DESK OR COUNTER A
PERMANENT SIGN STATING THE AVAILABILITY OF SMOKE DETECTORS FOR
THE HEARING IMPAIRED.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1987.

take effect on July 1, 1987, except that any regulations
necessary for the timely implementation of the Act on its
effective date shall be adopted on or before December 31, 1987 by
the State Fire Prevention Commission and, in Baltimore City, the
Chief of the Fire Department.
