Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland
Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill 339.

This bill provides that the Board of Trustees of the State
Retirement and Pension Systems needs to approve only certain
types of Option 4 retirements.

Senate Bill 91, which was passed by the General Assembly and
signed by me on June 2, 1987, accomplishes the same purpose.
Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign House Bill 339.

AN ACT concerning

Pensions - Optional Benefits

FOR the purpose of providing an alternative Option 4. benefit
allowance in the State employees' retirement and pension
systems, the teachers' retirement and pension systems, and
the State Police Retirement System so as to guarantee the
payment of a certain amount of a member's accumulated
contributions to certain persons.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 73B - Pensions

Section ll(ll)(a), 86(8)(a), 117(12)(a), and 145(12)(a)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1983 Replacement Volume and 1986 Supplement)

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 88B - State Police

Section 53(m)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1985 Replacement Volume and 1986 Supplement)
