CHAPTER 662

(House Bill 301)

AN ACT concerning

Legal Holidays - Conformity with Federal Holidays

State Holiday - Observance of Memorial Day

FOR the purpose of expanding current law designating legal
holiday to require observance of legal holidays on the date
specified by the United States Congress if the Congress has
so specified; and generally relating to the designation of
legal holidays amending the provision of law relating to the
designation of Memorial Day as a legal holiday in this State
by providing that if the United States Congress designates a
day for the national observance of Memorial Day other than
May 30, the day so designated by the United States Congress
shall be observed as Memorial Day in this State.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 1 - Rules of Interpretation

Section 27(a)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1981 Replacement Volume and 1986 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 1 - Rules of Interpretation

27.

(a) In this Code and any rule, regulation, or directive
adopted under it, "legal holiday" means:

(1)  January 1, for New Year's Day;

(2)  January 15, for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s
birthday;

(3)  February 12, for Lincoln's birthday;

(4)  The third Monday in February, for Washington's
birthday;

(5)  March 25, for Maryland Day;

(6)  Good Friday;
