Ch. 11

18-1102.

(a) The Board shall annually select the 300 secondary
school students who have the greatest potential for academic
success in higher education as determined by criteria
established by the Board and offer scholarships to these
students to be used at any Maryland postsecondary institution of
their choice, if they meet the following qualifications:

(1) Qualify academically as follows:

(i) Have a secondary school transcript
indicating an overall academic grade point average of at least
3.7 on a 4.0 scale or its equivalent grade point average; or

(ii) Are [a finalist] FINALISTS of the National
Merit Scholarship Program or the Achievement Scholarship Program
administered by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation; or

(iii) Have superior creative talent or skill in
art, music, dance, or the theater, as determined by an audition
or portfolio review process established by the Board.

DRAFTER'S NOTE: This corrects a grammatical error in §
18-1102(a)(1) of the Education Article.

The grammatical error occurred in Ch. 521 of the Acts
of 1980.

The grammatical error was noted by the Computer
Division of the Department of Legislative Reference.

18-1205.

A postsecondary proprietary student grant may be used:

(1)  At a private postsecondary proprietary
institution in this State that:

(i) Is approved by the State Board of Higher
Education; and

(ii) Operates solely within the State; AND

(2)  For tuition charges only.

DRAFTER'S NOTE: This corrects the omission of a conjunction
in § 18-1205 of the Education Article.

The omission of the conjunction, "and", was a

publishing error, which occurred in the 1980

Supplement to the 1978 Volume of the Education
Article.
