CHAPTER 497

(House Bill 685)

AN ACT concerning

Uniform Enforcement of Foreign Judgments Act

FOR the purpose of providing that certain foreign judgments filed
under this Act have the same effect as a judgment of the
court in which the foreign judgment is filed; providing that
certain foreign judgments are entitled to full faith and
credit in this State under certain circumstances; defining a
term; providing a certain procedure for filing foreign
judgments in this State; providing that a court shall stay
enforcement of certain foreign judgments filed in this State
under certain circumstances; providing for a certain fee for
filing foreign judgments; and generally relating to filing
foreign judgments in this State.

BY adding to

Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings

Section 11-801 through 11-807 to be under the new subtitle

"Subtitle 8. Uniform Enforcement of Foreign

Judgments Act"

(1984 Replacement Volume and. 1986 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

SUBTITLE 8. UNIFORM ENFORCEMENT OF FOREIGN JUDGMENTS ACT

11-801.

IN THIS SUBTITLE "FOREIGN JUDGMENT" MEANS A JUDGMENT,
DECREE, OR ORDER OF A COURT OF THE UNITED STATES OR OF ANY OTHER
COURT THAT IS ENTITLED TO FULL FAITH AND' CREDIT IN THIS STATE.

11-802.

(A) (1) A COPY OF ANY FOREIGN JUDGMENT AUTHENTICATED IN
ACCORDANCE WITH AN ACT OF CONGRESS OR STATUTES OF THIS STATE MAY
BE FILED IN THE OFFICE OF THE CLERK OF ANY COURT OF COMPETENT
JURISDICTION OF THIS STATE.

(2) THE CLERK SHALL TREAT THE FOREIGN JUDGMENT IN THE
SAME MANNER AS A JUDGMENT OF THE COURT IN WHICH THE FOREIGN
JUDGMENT IS FILED.
