WILLIAM DONALD SCHAEFER, Governor Ch. 311

[(i)] 5-509. Subject to the rules and policies of the
Commission and the administrative supervision of the Secretary
[of Economic and Community Development], the Director shall:

(1)  Be the chief administrative officer of the
Commission;

(2)  Direct, administer, and supervise the activities
of the Commission; and

(3)  Appoint and may remove any employee of the
Commission. Any employee appointed by the Director shall be an
unclassified employee of the State.

SUBTITLE 6. MARYLAND HISTORICAL TRUST

[Subtitle] PART 1. General Provisions.

[5-101.] 5-601.

(a)  In this subtitle the following words have the meanings
indicated.

(b)  "Council" means the Maryland Advisory Council on
Historic Preservation.

(c)   "Director" means the Director of the Maryland
Historical Trust.

(d)   "Financial assistance" means an action by the State    or
a State unit to award grants, loans, loan guarantees, or
insurance to a public or private entity to finance, either   in
part or in whole, an undertaking.

(e)  "Governor's Consulting Committee on the National
Register of Historic Places" means the committee that reviews
nominations to the National Register under the National Historic
Preservation Act of 1966.

(f)  "Historic property" means a district, site, building,
structure, or object significant in the prehistory, history,
upland and underwater archeology, architecture, engineering, and
culture of the State, including artifacts, records, and remains
related to a district, site, building, structure, or object.

(g)   "Preservation" means the identification, evaluation,
recordation, documentation, curation, acquisition, protection,
management, rehabilitation, restoration, stabilization,
maintenance, and reconstruction of a historic property.

(h) "State Historic Preservation Officer" means the
individual who administers the State Historic Preservation
