WILLIAM DONALD SCHAEFER, Governor                    Ch. 311

[(e) (1)] 5-405. (A) The Commissioners, subject to the
approval of the Secretary [of Economic and Community
Development], shall appoint, from without their number, and
administrator of the Commission [on Indian Affairs].

[(2)] (B) The administrator shall serve at the
pleasure of the Commissioners, subject to the concurrence of the
Secretary [of Economic and Community Development], and shall be
an unclassified employee of the State [of Maryland].

[(3)] (C) Subject to the rules and policies set forth
by the Commissioners and the administrative supervision of the
Secretary [of Economic and Community Development] in accordance
with [Article 41, §§ 11-101, 11-102, and 11-105 of the Maryland
Annotated Code] §§ 1-102, 1-103, AND 1-106 OF THIS ARTICLE, the
administrator shall:

[(i)] (1) Be the chief administrative officer
of the Commission;

[(ii)] (2) Direct, administer, and supervise
the activities of the Commission; and

[(iii)] (3) Supervise the appointment and
removal of personnel employed by the Commission.

Subtitle [4.] 5. Maryland Ethnic Heritage Commission

[15-401.]

[(a)] 5-501. There is a Maryland Ethnic Heritage Commission
within the Department [of Economic and Community Development].

[(b)] 5-502. The Commission shall:

(1)  Advise the Governor through the Secretary [of
Economic and Community Development] on State programs and
activities relating to Maryland's ethnic heritage;

(2)  Sponsor and promote historical, cultural, and
educational projects to increase the knowledge and appreciation
of ethnic cultural history throughout the State;

(3)  Strive to increase the understanding among ethnic
groups and between ethnic groups and the community at large;

(4)  Recommend and stimulate the commemoration of
historical events and the official recognition of accomplishments
made by individuals or organizations from within the ethnic
communities;

(5)  Maintain contact with and coordinate the
activities of all ethnic communities in the State and serve as a
