The Honorable Benjamin L. Cardin
Speaker of the House of Delegates
State House
Annapolis, Maryland 21404
Dear Mr. Speaker:
In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland
Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill 635.
This bill authorizes juvenile courts to designate the type
of facility a child may be committed to on terms it considers
appropriate, provided the facility has not exceeded its budgeted
capacity.
Senate Bill 348, which was passed by the General Assembly
and signed by me on May 27, 1986, accomplishes the same purpose.
Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign House Bill 635.
Sincerely,
Harry Hughes
Governor
House Bill No. 635
AN ACT concerning
Juvenile Causes - Disposition
FOR the purpose of specifying that, when a juvenile court commits
a child to the custody or guardianship of certain agencies,
the custody or guardianship is on the terms that the court
considers appropriate under certain priorities and may
include designation of a particular facility the type of
facility where the child is to be accommodated subject to
certain conditions; and clarifying when such custody or
guardianship terminates.
