In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland
Constitution, I have today vetoed Senate Bill 960.

This bill exempts correctional officers of the Harford and
Cecil Counties Detention Centers from the law which prohibits
employers from using a lie detector test as a condition of
employment.

House Bill 759, which was passed by the General Assembly and
signed by me on April 29, 1986, accomplishes the same purpose.
Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign Senate Bill 960.

AN ACT concerning

Harford and Cecil Counties - Lie Detector Tests -
Correctional Officers

FOR the purpose of exempting correctional officers of the Harford
and Cecil Counties Detention Centers from the law which
prohibits employers from using a lie detector test as a
condition of employment.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 100 - Work, Labor and Employment

95.

(a) (1) The following words have the meanings indicated.

(2) The term "employer" as used in this subtitle
means every employer engaged in any business or enterprise in
this State, including the government of the State of Maryland, or
any county, incorporated city or town, or other municipal
corporation.
