HARRY HUGHES, Governor
3807
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1986.
May 27, 1986
The Honorable Melvin A. Steinberg
President of the Senate
State House
Annapolis, Maryland 21404
Dear Mr. President:
In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland
Constitution, I have today vetoed Senate Bill 746.
This bill requires a medical examiner to conduct an autopsy
of any fire fighter who dies from injuries sustained in the line
of duty. Investigation as to the source of fumes must be made by
the medical examiner if toxic fumes were the cause of death.
House Bill 1563, which was passed by the General Assembly
and signed by me on May 13, 1986, accomplishes the same purpose.
Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign Senate Bill 746.
Sincerely,
Harry Hughes
Governor
Senate Bill No. 746

certain circumstances; specifying the sufficiency of these
autopsies for certain purposes; setting forth certain
provisions for informational purposes; and generally
relating to the performance of autopsies on fire fighters
who die in the line of duty or as result of injuries
sustained in the line of duty.
