INJURIES FOR THE DURATION OF THE DISABILITY IF THE FIRE FIGHTER
OR EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN:
(I) IS EXPOSED TO AN INFECTIOUS DISEASE WHILE
IN ACTIVE SERVICE;
(II) RECEIVES NOTICE AS REQUIRED BY § 18-213 OF
THE HEALTH - GENERAL ARTICLE; AND
(III) IS UNABLE TO PERFORM ACTIVE DUTIES.
(2) AN ACTIVE PAID OR VOLUNTEER FIRE FIGHTER OR
EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN SHALL BE PROVIDED APPROPRIATE
MEDICAL TREATMENT AND SURVEILLANCE, AT LEAST EQUIVALENT TO THAT
PROVIDED BY THE EMPLOYER FOR ON DUTY INJURY OR ILLNESS, FOR THE
DURATION OF THE DISABILITY, IF THE FIRE FIGHTER OR EMERGENCY
MEDICAL TECHNICIAN:
(I) IS EXPOSED TO AN INFECTIOUS DISEASE WHILE
IN ACTIVE SERVICE;
(II) RECEIVES NOTICE AS REQUIRED BY § 18-213 OF
THE HEALTH - GENERAL ARTICLE; AND
(III) IS UNABLE TO PERFORM ACTIVE DUTIES.
(B) THE DEFENDENTS OF AN ACTIVE, INACTIVE, OR RETIRED PAID
OR VOLUNTEER FIRE FIGHTER OR EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN ARE
ENTITLED TO RECEIVE AN OCCUPATIONAL INFECTIOUS DISEASE DEATH
BENEFIT OF $25,000:
(1) IF THE FIRE FIGHTER OR EMERGENCY MEDICAL
TECHNICIAN DIES FROM AN INFECTIOUS DISEASE TO WHICH THE FIRE
FIGHTER OR EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN WAS EXPOSED WHILE IN
ACTIVE SERVICE; AND
(2) IF NOTIFICATION WAS MADE TO THE FIRE FIGHTER OR
EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN AS REQUIRED BY § 18-213 OF THE
HEALTH - GENERAL ARTICLE.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1986.
