In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland
Constitution, I have today vetoed Senate Bill 582.
This bill requires a physician to notify a fire fighter,
emergency medical technician, or rescue squadman if the patient
type have delivered has a contagious disease.
House Bill 1013, which was passed by the General Assembly
and signed by me on May 27, 1986, accomplishes the same purpose.
Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign Senate Bill 582.

AN ACT concerning
Exposure to Infectious Contagious Diseases - Notification
and Benefits for Fire Fighters and, Emergency Medical
Technicians, and Rescue Squadmen
FOR the purpose of requiring certain physicians to notify certain
paid and volunteer fire fighters and, emergency medical
technicians, or rescue squadmen if the fire fighter or,
emergency medical technician, or rescue squadman comes into
contact with certain patients with infectious contagious
diseases; requiring that such notice be made within a
certain period of time, include certain written protocol
confirmation, and be conducted in a certain confidential
fashion; establishing the entitlement of certain paid and
volunteer fire fighters to receive occupational disability
benefits and certain medical treatment if exposed to an
infectious disease and notified as required; establishing
entitlement to an occupational infectious death benefit; and
generally relating to notification and benefits for of
exposure of fire fighters and, emergency medical technicians
exposed, and rescue squadmen to infectious contagious
diseases.
