SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1986.

(House Bill 1607)

AN ACT concerning

Motor Vehicles - Operation While License Suspended - Penalties

FOR the purpose of altering certain penalties imposed on a person
convicted of certain violations of operating a motor vehicle
while his license is suspended; and generally relating to
penalties for operation of a motor vehicle with a suspended
license.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Section 16-303 and 27-101(c) and (i)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1984 Replacement Volume and 1985 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Transportation

16-303.

(a)  A SUBJECT TO THE PROVISIONS OF SUBSECTION (B) OF THIS
SECTION, A
person may not drive a motor vehicle on any highway or
on any property specified in § 21-101.1 of this article while his
license or privilege to drive is refused, canceled, suspended, or
revoked in this State UNDER § 16-205, § 16-205.1, § 16-205.2, §
16-206, § 16-404, OR § 17-204 OF THIS ARTICLE or a license issued
by any other state is canceled, suspended, or revoked OR ANY
OTHER STATE FOR ANY REASON EXCEPT THOSE SPECIFIED IN SUBSECTION
(B) OF THIS SECTION. ANY INDIVIDUAL WHO VIOLATES THIS SUBSECTION
SHALL BE ASSESSED THE POINTS AS PROVIDED FOR IN § 16-402(A)(20)
OF THIS TITLE.

(b)  A person [who drives] MAY NOT DRIVE a motor vehicle on
any highway or on any property specified in § 21-101.1 of this
article while his license or privilege to drive is suspended
under § 17-106, § 26-204, § 26-206, or § 27-103 of this article.
