SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

SUBTITLE 9. PURCHASES FROM SOUTH AFRICA
18-901.
(A) IN THIS SUBTITLE THE FOLLOWING WORDS HAVE THE MEANINGS
INDICATED.
(B) "COMPARABLE LOW BID OR OFFER" MEANS A BID OR OFFER
WHICH IS NO MORE THAN 5% GREATER THAN THE LOWEST BID OR OFFER
SUBMITTED TO THE GOVERNMENTAL AGENCY.
(C) "COMPTROLLER" MEANS THE COMPTROLLER OF THE STATE.
(D) "DOING BUSINESS WITH SOUTH AFRICA" MEANS:
(1) HAVING ANY INVESTMENTS, LICENSE, OR OPERATIONS
IN THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA;
(2) PROVIDING FINANCIAL SERVICES TO THE REPUBLIC OF
SOUTH AFRICA, INCLUDING PROVIDING DIRECT LOANS, UNDERWRITING
GOVERNMENT SECURITIES, OR PROMOTING THE SALE OF SOLD COINS FROM
SOUTH AFRICA; OR
(3) PROVIDING ANY SUPPLIES OR SERVICES TO THE
REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA.
(E) "PERSON" MEANS ANY INDIVIDUAL AND ANY PARTNERSHIP,
FIRM, ASSOCIATION, CORPORATION, OR OTHER ENTITY.
