(House Bill 1416)

AN ACT concerning

Education - Libraries and Media Centers in Public

Schools - Black History

FOR the purpose of requiring county boards of education to adopt

procedures for the selection and purchase of books and

auditory and visual materials concerning black history for
use in libraries or media centers in public schools;
requiring that the books and auditory and visual materials
be appropriate for the ages and reading levels of students
in the schools; and generally relating to books and
materials concerning black history used in the public
schools in the State.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF

MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Education

7-106.

(a) On the recommendation of the county superintendent and
subject to the provisions of this article, each county board
shall adopt procedures for the selection and purchase of the
following necessary items, at the lowest price consistent with
good quality, for use in the public schools:

(1)  Textbooks;

(2)  Supplementary readers;

(3)  Materials of instruction;

(4)  Visual and auditory aids;
