of certain employees for extended sick leave; prohibiting
the granting of extended sick leave under certain
circumstances; increasing the length of time for which
extended sick leave may be granted; providing for a delayed
effective date; providing for the disposition of certain
unused personal leave days for a certain year; requiring the
Department of Personnel to make a certain report by a
certain date; requiring State agencies to provide certain
data and information for certain purposes at certain times;
providing for the time period that certain changes of this
Act are effective; and generally relating to the granting of
leave with pay to State employees,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article 64A - Merit System
37.
(a) (1) (I) [From and after January 1, 1972, every] EVERY
classified employee shall receive as annual vacation in each
calendar year, a leave of absence with pay as follows:
Less than 5 years of service - 10 working days
5 to less than 10 years of service - 15 working days
10 to less than 20 years of service - 20 working days
20 years of service and more - 25 working days[,
provided, however, that every classified State employee on
January 1, 1957, who as of that date shall have less than five
years of service shall be entitled to receive, as vacation in
each calendar year until his period of service reaches 20 years,
a leave of absence with pay of 15 working days]. The term "years
of service," as used herein shall include any previous continuous
State service.
(II) EXCEPT AS PROVIDED IN ITEM (III) OF THIS
PARAGRAPH, 2 DAYS OF ANNUAL LEAVE EARNED UNDER ITEM (I) OF THIS
PARAGRAPH MAY BE USED BY AN EMPLOYEE AFTER NOTIFICATION OF THE
EMPLOYEE'S IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR FOR RELIGIOUS HOLIDAY, INCLEMENT
WEATHER, OR ANY OTHER PURPOSE WHATSOEVER.
(III) AN EMPLOYEE SCHEDULED TO WORK ON A STATE
HOLIDAY, OR AN EMPLOYEE OF AN AGENCY OR INSTITUTION WHICH RENDERS
