COMPRESSED GASES, OR A MOTOR VEHICLE USING COMPRESSED GAS AS A
FUEL, A FLARE, FUSEE, OR SIGNAL PRODUCED BY FLAME.

[(c)] (D) (1) No flare, fusee, electric lantern, warning
device, or warning flag may be used to comply with this section
unless the equipment is of a type that has been submitted to and
approved by the Administrator.

(2) After June 30, 1974, no portable reflector
warning device may be used to equip a vehicle that is required by
this section to be so equipped unless it meets the requirements
specified in the applicable federal motor vehicle safety
standards. Vehicles equipped with portable reflector devices
before July 1, 1974, may continue to use a device conforming to
the requirements of a Type 2 device as specified in the Society
of Automotive Engineers recommended standards until such time as
the device is replaced. Replacement devices shall conform to the
applicable federal standards.

22-410.

(a)  In this section, "air conditioning equipment" means
mechanical vapor compression refrigeration equipment used to cool
the driver's or passenger compartment of any motor vehicle.

(b)  Air conditioning equipment shall be manufactured[,
installed, and maintained] with due regard for the safety of the
occupants of the vehicle and the public and may not contain any
refrigerant that is toxic to persons or is flammable.

(C)  AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT SHALL BE INSTALLED WITH DUE
REGARD FOR THE SAFETY OF THE OCCUPANTS OF THE VEHICLE AND THE
PUBLIC AND MAY NOT CONTAIN ANY REFRIGERANT THAT IS TOXIC TO
PERSONS OR IS FLAMMABLE.

(D)  AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT SHALL BE MAINTAINED WITH DUE
REGARD FOR THE SAFETY OF THE OCCUPANTS OF THE VEHICLE AND THE
PUBLIC AND MAY NOT CONTAIN ANY REFRIGERANT THAT IS TOXIC TO
PERSONS OR IS FLAMMABLE.

[(c)] (E) The Administrator may adopt and enforce safety
requirements, regulations, and specifications for air
conditioning equipment consistent with the requirements of this
section.

[(d)] (F) A person may not have for sale, offer for sale,
sell, or equip any motor vehicle with any air conditioning
equipment unless it complies with the requirements of this
section.

[(e)] (G) A person may not drive on any highway any motor
vehicle equipped with any air conditioning equipment unless the
equipment complies with the requirements of this section.
