CHAPTER 330

(Senate Bill 431)

AN ACT concerning

Scholarships for Public Safety Personnel and Their Children

FOR the purpose of altering the list of public safety personnel
whose children may receive scholarships; requiring that
certain public safety personnel receive full and complete
certain tuition reimbursement by the State Scholarship Board
for certain courses; requiring the tuition reimbursement
application to be filed by a certain date; and generally
relating to scholarships for public safety personnel and
their children.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article - Education

Section 18-601, 18-602, and 18-605

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1985 Replacement Volume and 1985 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Education

18-601.

(a) In this section "child" means:

(1)  Any child who is at least 16 years old and under
24 of any of the following State or local public safety personnel
killed in the line of duty:

(i) A [professional] CAREER or volunteer
[fireman;] MEMBER OF A:

1.  FIRE DEPARTMENT;

2.  AMBULANCE COMPANY OR SQUAD; OR

3.  RESCUE COMPANY OR SQUAD;

(ii) [A volunteer member of a rescue squad;
(iii)] A law enforcement officer; or
[(iv)] (III) A correctional officer; and

(2)  A dependent legal child by birth or adoption of a
member of the Maryland National Guard who was a resident of this
