       On this 2.d day of March 1844 personally
       appeared John W Thomas before me the subscriber
       one of the State of Marylands Justices of the peace
       in and for said county and makes oath on
       the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that he
       knows John Curtis who is the son of one
       Matilda Curtis to be a free born person
       and has known him for some time past
