       State of Maryland Prince Georges County Sc.t
                                            On this 7.th day of October in
       the year eighteen hundred and forty four before the
       subscriber a justice of the peace for the county and
       state aforesaid personally appears Rochester Gallaway
       a free man of colour of said county and maketh
       oath on the holy evangely of Almighty God that
       he is the father of William Gallaway who was
       born on the 21.st day of August in the year eighteen
       hundred and twenty and that he was free born
       said William Galloway is of a mulatto complexion
       has a scar on the left side of his face near his eye
       and is the son of Rachel Gallaway the wife of
       this defenent who was a free born mulatto and
       died about ten years since
