       State of Maryland Prince Georges County to wit
                         On this 19.th day of May in in the Year of
       our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty one personally
       appears before me the Subscriber a Justice
       of the Peace of the State of Maryland in and
       for the County aforesaid Edward G Willett and
       makes Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God
       That he knew Nelly Curtis the mother of William
       Curtis and that she was free and that the
       said William Curtis was born free
             Given under my hand the day and date
       above written
