          This is to certify that the bearer James Mitchell
       Manumitted by Charles Mitchell of Prince Georges County
       State of Maryland about the year 1816 and recorded
       in the clerks office of said County & State
       being twenty one years of age wishing to get his free
       papers and has applied to me for a certificate  
       to carry to the Clerk of the County and I do certify
       the said James Mitchell is the person that he Measure
       nearly five feet six inches that he is a rather a bright
       Mulatoe thick and well made has a large broad
       scar on the right and fore part of his arm from
       a burn when young


             Prince Georges County to Wit
                                                             On this 5.th day of April 1836
             before the Subscriber a Justice of the peace in and for said
             County personally appears Spencer Mitchell and made
             Oath on the holy Evanjely of Almighty God that the
             same facts stated in the above certificate is true and
             correct to the best of his knowledge and belief
                                                             Sworn before
                                                             Overton Warren   J P
