                   State of Maryland Prince Georges County
                                           I hereby certify that on this
       Twenty third day of April eighteen hundred and fifty
       Seven before me the Subscriber one of the justices of
       the peace in and for the said County and state
       personally appeared John B Adams of the Said County
       and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of
       Almighty God that John Lewis Buttler is the
       son of Ann Buttler a free Coloured woman
       of the said County and was free born and
       is entitled to his free papers witness my hand
       the day and year first before written
