In the introductory language of this section, the
defined term "Department" is substituted for the
former reference to the "Secretary of General
Services", for clarity.

In item (3) of this section, the words "designated by
law or by the Board of Public Works" are added for
clarity and to conform to apparent legislative intent.
This revision is called to the attention of the
General Assembly.

In item (4) of this section, the words "or grounds"
are added, consistent with apparent legislative
intent, to fill a gap in the former law. The addition
of these words expressly provides for maintenance and
protection of unimproved public grounds. This
revision is called to the attention of the General
Assembly.

4-602. SUPERINTENDENTS.

(A)  APPOINTMENT AND REMOVAL.

IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE STATE MERIT SYSTEM LAW, THE SECRETARY
MAY APPOINT AND REMOVE SUPERINTENDENTS TO SUPERVISE DESIGNATED
IMPROVEMENTS, GROUNDS, AND MULTISERVICE CENTERS UNDER THE
JURISDICTION OF THE DEPARTMENT, INCLUDING THOSE IN ANNAPOLIS AND
BALTIMORE CITY.

(B)  DUTIES.

A SUPERINTENDENT SHALL PERFORM THE DUTIES DELEGATED BY THE
SECRETARY.

(C)  COMPENSATION.

A SUPERINTENDENT IS ENTITLED TO COMPENSATION IN ACCORDANCE
WITH THE STATE BUDGET.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived
without substantive change from former Art. 41, §
133(d).

In subsection (a) of this section and throughout this

subtitle, the words "improvements, grounds, and

multiservice centers under the jurisdiction of the

Department" are substituted for former language such

as "facilities and sites", for clarity and
consistency.

Also in subsection (a) of this section, "Baltimore
City" is substituted for the former reference to
