section.

(B)  DEPARTMENT.

"DEPARTMENT" MEANS THE DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SERVICES.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection is new language derived
without substantive change from former Art. 78A, §
25B(b) and former Art. 41, § 231G-l(b)(1)(ii).

The language is revised to have title-wide
application.

(C)  SECRETARY.

"SECRETARY" MEANS THE SECRETARY OF GENERAL SERVICES.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection is new language added to
avoid repetition of the full title "Secretary of
General Services".

SUBTITLE 2. ORGANIZATION AND GENERAL AUTHORITY
OF DEPARTMENT.

4-201. DEPARTMENT ESTABLISHED.

THERE IS A DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SERVICES, ESTABLISHED AS A
PRINCIPAL DEPARTMENT OF THE STATE GOVERNMENT.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived
without substantive change from the first sentence of
former Art. 41, § 231(a).

It is set forth as a separate section for emphasis.

See also SG § 8-201(b), which lists all of the
principal departments of the Executive Branch of the
State government.

4-202. SECRETARY OF GENERAL SERVICES.

(A)  POSITION AND APPOINTMENT.

THE HEAD OF THE DEPARTMENT IS THE SECRETARY OF GENERAL
SERVICES, WHO SHALL BE APPOINTED BY THE GOVERNOR WITH THE ADVICE
AND CONSENT OF THE SENATE.

(B)  OATH.

BEFORE TAKING OFFICE, THE APPOINTEE SHALL TAKE THE OATH
REQUIRED BY ARTICLE I, § 9 OF THE MARYLAND CONSTITUTION.

(C) RESPONSIBILITY TO GOVERNOR; ADMINISTRATION OF
DEPARTMENT.
