The Honorable Benjamin L. Cardin
Speaker of the House of Delegates
State House
Annapolis, Maryland 21404
Dear Mr. Speaker:
In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland
Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill 494.
This bill requires holders of Class B (on-sale) hotel and
restaurant beer, wine and liquor licenses in Wicomico County to
purchase their alcoholic beverage stock, other than beer and
light wine, from the County dispensary.
Senate Bill 80, which was passed by the General Assembly and
signed by me on April 9, 1985, accomplishes the same purpose.
Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign House Bill 494.
Sincerely,
Harry Hughes
Governor

County to purchase their alcoholic beverage stock, other

prohibiting the dispensary from charging more than a certain
percent above the wholesale operation cost to the dispensary
for items that are purchased by the holder.
