VETOES

AN ACT concerning

Higher Education - Scholarships Scholarship Board -
Membership - Independent Postsecondary Schools

FOR the purpose of expanding the membership and altering the
composition of the State Scholarship Board.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article - Education
Section 18-202(a) and (b)
Annotated Code of Maryland
(1978 Volume and 1984 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Education

18-202.

(a)  The State Scholarship Board consists of [nine] 10
members appointed by the Governor.

(b)  Of the members of the Board:

(1)  One shall be the president of a State college or
university or [his] THE PRESIDENT'S nominee;

(2)  One shall be the president of a private college
or [his] THE PRESIDENT'S nominee;

(3)  One shall be the president of a community college
or [his] THE PRESIDENT'S nominee;

(4)  One shall be a financial aid officer of a State
or private college or university;

(5)  One shall be a representative of the public high
schools; [and]

(6)  ONE SHALL BE A REPRESENTATIVE OF A PRIVATE
POSTSECONDARY PROPRIETARY INSTITUTION; AND

[(6)] (7) Four shall be residents of this State,
chosen for their interest in higher education, who are not
employed by, professionally affiliated with, or members of the
governing board of any institution of higher education in [this]
