JOINT RESOLUTIONS

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
Department of Health and Mental Hygiene shall work with Disabled
in Action and The Maryland Development Developmental Disabilities
Council to develop policies to ensure that Self Advocacy is a
requirement available for all day habilitation and community

residential programs funded by the Mental

Retardation/Developmental Disabilities Administration programs;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Maryland Developmental Disabilities
Council should be commended for its support of the Self Advocacy
Training Project; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be forwarded by the
Department of Legislative Reference to Adele Wilzack, Secretary,
Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Lois Mezaros, Director,
MRDDA, Diana Chillas Pillas, Past Chairperson, and Jerry

Kiracofe, Present Chairperson, Maryland Developmental

Disabilities Council, 201 West Preston Street, Baltimore,
Maryland 21201; and Nancy Darnell, President, Disabled in Action,
111 West Chesapeake Avenue, Towson, Maryland 21204.

(Senate Joint Resolution No. 39)

A Senate Joint Resolution concerning

Nutrition Surveillance

FOR the purpose of requesting the Secretary of Health and Mental
Hygiene to establish study the feasibility of establishing a
Nutritional Surveillance Program to study the nutritional
and health status of residents of the State, and improving
information on the nutritional status of the residents;
making certain cost determinations; requiring the Secretary
to report certain findings and recommendations to the
General Assembly by a certain date; and generally relating
to a Nutritional Surveillance Program in the State.

WHEREAS, The objective of a nutritionally healthy citizenry
is a high priority for the State of Maryland; and

WHEREAS, A nutritional monitoring system is a basic tool
necessary to examine the linkage between food consumption
patterns, nutritional status and health status; and

WHEREAS, There is a lack of essential information available
on the nature and scope of nutritional deficiencies in Maryland,
