BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
Article 78B - Racing Commission
Section 24
Annotated Code of Maryland
(1980 Replacement Volume and 1984 Supplement)
FOR the purpose of establishing the Maryland Jockey Injury
Compensation Fund, Inc.; requiring the Fund to secure
workmen's compensation insurance coverage for certain
jockeys; requiring the Workmen's Compensation Commission
Maryland Racing Commission to levy certain assessments
against certain persons to pay the cost of workmen's
compensation insurance for jockeys; requiring the Commission
to transfer certain moneys it collects to the Fund to be
used by the Fund to purchase workmen's compensation
insurance for jockeys and to administer the workmen's
compensation program for jockeys established by this Act;
providing that the Fund be managed by a certain board of
directors appointed by the Secretary of Licensing and
Regulation; providing for certain sanctions against certain
persons who fail to pay the certain assessments required by
this Act; defining for whom a jockey is an employee for
certain purposes and under certain circumstances; providing
for the computation of a jockey's "average weekly wage" for
purposes of the workmen's compensation law; limiting the
liability of the Fund and other employers of. jockeys; and
generally relating to workmen's compensation coverage for
jockeys; providing for a certain effective dates date.
