SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 19 - St. Mary's County

[46-2.

A.  The County Commissioners of St. Mary's County may make
loans of funds from the county treasury or borrow funds and, in
turn, loan to the volunteer fire companies of St. Mary's County
for the purpose of financing equipment purchases or other capital
improvement projects.

B.  To implement this section, the County Commissioners
shall adopt, by ordinance or resolution, appropriate governing
criteria and regulations concerning the issuance and repayment of
these loans.

C.  The aggregate sum loaned under this section to the
several fire companies may not exceed seven hundred thousand
dollars ($700,000).]

46-2.

(A) IN THIS SECTION, THE FOLLOWING WORDS HAVE THE MEANINGS
INDICATED.

(1)  "COUNTY" MEANS THE BODY POLITIC AND CORPORATE OF
THE STATE OF MARYLAND KNOWN AS THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF ST.
MARY'S COUNTY.

(2)  "FIRE FIGHTING EQUIPMENT" MEANS:

(I)  NECESSARY FURNISHINGS;

(II)  FIRE FIGHTING, RESCUE AND EMERGENCY
MEDICAL EQUIPMENT; AND

(III)  FIXED, PERMANENT EQUIPMENT USED AND
OPERATED BY VOLUNTEER FIRE, AMBULANCE, AND RESCUE COMPANIES
DEPARTMENTS.
