provided elsewhere in this title, the person, upon conviction, is
subject to a fine not exceeding $500, or imprisonment not
exceeding three months, or both, with costs imposed in the
discretion of the court.

(b) Unless another penalty is specifically provided
elsewhere in this title, any person found guilty of a second or
subsequent violation of any provision of this title is subject to
a fine not exceeding $1,000, or imprisonment not exceeding one
year, or both, with costs imposed in the discretion of the court.
For the purpose of this subsection, a second or subsequent
violation is one which has occurred within two years of any prior
violation of this title.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1985.

CHAPTER 623

(House Bill 493)

AN ACT concerning

Vehicle Laws - Special Registration for Disabled
Persons - Multipurpose Vehicles

FOR the purpose of eliminating the provisions of the Maryland
Vehicle Law that require a Class M (multipurpose) vehicle to
be specially equipped for the transportation of handicapped
individuals and used exclusively for the transportation of
handicapped or disabled individuals in order that the owner
of the vehicle may apply to the Motor Vehicle Administration
for the assignment of a special, disabled person's
registration number; and generally relating to the issuance
of a disabled person's registration number to the owner of a
Class M (multipurpose) vehicle.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
