Election Laws - Absentee Voters

FOR the purpose of providing that certain students at certain
colleges or universities may vote by absentee ballot under
certain circumstances.

BY repealing

Article 33 - Election Code

Section 27-l(b)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1983 Replacement Volume and 1984 Supplement)

BY adding to

Article 33 - Election Code

Section 27-l(b)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1983 Replacement Volume and 1984 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 33 - Election Code

27-1.

[(b) Any qualified voter who may be absent for any reason
from the county or Baltimore City where he is registered to vote
on any election day and any qualified person as defined in § 27-2
of this article may vote as an absentee voter under this
subtitle.]

(B) A REGISTERED VOTER MAY VOTE BY ABSENTEE BALLOT UNDER
THIS SUBTITLE IF THE VOTER:

(1)  MAY BE ABSENT FOR ANY REASON FROM THE COUNTY OR
BALTIMORE CITY WHERE THE VOTER IS REGISTERED TO VOTE ON ELECTION
DAY;

(2)  IS A FULL-TIME STUDENT AT A COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY
LOCATED OUTSIDE THE PRECINCT BUT WITHIN THE COUNTY IN WHICH THE
STUDENT IS REGISTERED TO VOTE AND WHOSE ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS
PRECLUDE THE STUDENT FROM BEING PRESENT AT THE POLLS ON ANY
ELECTION DAY; OR

(3)  IS A QUALIFIED PERSON AS DEFINED IN SECTION 27-2
OF THIS ARTICLE.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1985.
