required by this Act. The uniform statewide form shall be

available for distribution, and shall be accepted by the boards

of supervisors of elections as applications for voter
registration, beginning January 1, 1986.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1985.

AN ACT concerning

Election Code - Charter Petitions

FOR the purpose of altering the time by which certain charter
petitions must be filed; and making technical changes.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 33 - Election Code

Section 23-l(b)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1983 Replacement Volume and 1984 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 33 - Election Code

23-1.

(b) Questions arising under Article XI-A of the
Constitution of Maryland (including demands or petitions for the
election of a charter board, amendments to any charter previously
adopted, and any proposed charter or form of government) shall be
filed with the board, mayor of Baltimore City, or president of
the board of county commissioners, or the county council as the
case may be, on or before THE END OF THE REGULAR BUSINESS DAY ON
the [third] FIRST SECOND Monday in the month of August in the
year in which there is to be a general election at which any of
these questions is to be voted upon. The filing of any of these
questions with the officer [of] OR officers specified in Article
XI-A shall be construed also to be a filing with the board for
the purposes of this article.
