Preamble
WHEREAS, It is the policy of this State that qualified men
and women of all races, creeds, and national origin, who wish to
enter and advance in the ranks of the Natural Resources Police,
shall be afforded equal opportunities in hiring and promotion;
and
WHEREAS, It is the policy of this State that the Department
of Natural Resources shall establish reasonable goals and
timetables for the employment of women and members of minority
groups and affirmative actions for meeting these goals, giving.
due consideration to the geographic distribution of these groups
throughout the State; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of the General Assembly with this
enactment to assist the Secretary of Natural Resources in meeting
the foregoing policies for the Natural Resources Police Force;
now, therefore,
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article - Natural Resources
1-203.
(a) The Secretary [may] SHALL, WITHIN THE LIMITS OF ANY
APPROPRIATION MADE FOR THIS PURPOSE, appoint natural resources
police officers [in accordance with the State merit system] AS
THE SECRETARY DEEMS NECESSARY FOR THE EFFICIENT ADMINISTRATION OF
THE NATURAL RESOURCES POLICE FORCE. ALL APPOINTMENTS SHALL BE
MADE FROM A LIST OF ELIGIBLE PERSONS PREPARED BY THE SECRETARY OF
PERSONNEL IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MERIT SYSTEM, OR FROM A LIST
PREPARED BY THE DEPARTMENT AS PERMITTED BY THE SECRETARY OF
PERSONNEL.
