FOR the purpose of repealing the requirement that individuals who
wish to be nominees for the Charles County Board of
Education must file a certain petition; and generally
relating to qualifications of candidates for the Charles
County Board of Education.
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
Article 33 - Election Code
Section 32-3

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article 33 - Election Code
32-3.
[(a)] No individual may be a candidate for nomination or
election to a board of education unless the qualifications
therefor in the Education Article and this article are satisfied.
Before certifying the name of a candidate to appear on the
ballot, the board shall determine that the candidate satisfies
the requirements of law therefor. [Except in Charles County, no]
NO individual shall be required or permitted to qualify as a
candidate by filing a petition.
[(b) Nomination for membership of the Charles County Board
of Education shall be by petition signed by at least 200 voters
from the county. Each petition shall be filed with the Board of
Supervisors of Elections of Charles County not later than 9:00
p.m. on the Monday which is 10 weeks or 70 days before the day on
which the primary election for the political parties is held. A
person nominated shall be a qualified voter and resident in the
county. Each nominee shall pay a filing fee of $25 when the
petition is filed.]
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1985.
