CHAPTER 249

(Senate Bill 874)

AN ACT concerning

Law Enforcement Officers' Bill of Rights

FOR the purpose of altering the definition of "law enforcement
officer" in the Law Enforcement Officers' Bill of Rights to
exclude individuals holding the rank of captain or higher;
specifying an exception; and making this Act an emergency
measure.

FOR the purpose of defining certain terms under the Law
Enforcement Officers' Bill of Rights; and making this Act an
emergency measure.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 27 - Crimes and Punishments

727.

(a)  As. used in the subtitle, the following words have the
meanings indicated.

(b)   "Law-enforcement officer" means any person who, in his
official capacity, is authorized by law to make arrests and who
is a member of one of the following law-enforcement agencies:

(1)  The Maryland State Police;

(2)  The Baltimore City police department;
