SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1985.

(Senate Bill 826)
AN ACT concerning
Alcoholism Education and Treatment Programs
FOR the purpose of transferring responsibility from the
Administrative Office of the Courts to the Department of
Health and Mental Hygiene for approving alcoholism education
and treatment programs used as a condition for suspensions
of sentences or of probation in certain cases; requiring the
Department to monitor these programs, to investigate
complaints, and to keep the Administrative Office of the
Courts apprised of the current status of these programs;
requiring the Administrative Office of the Courts to keep a
current list of approved programs and to notify certain
judges of changes in the status of programs; transferring
from the Alcoholism Control Administration to the Department
responsibility with respect to alcoholism education and
treatment programs for individuals convicted of certain
crimes; clarifying the scope of that responsibility; and
providing for certain programs approved as of the effective
date of this Act.
