CHAPTER 166

(Senate Bill 295)

AN ACT concerning

Higher Education - Displaced Homemakers

FOR the purpose of altering the meaning of displaced homemaker

for purposes of tuition exemptions at certain State

institutions of higher education; extending the Displaced
Homemakers Program to a certain date; and generally relating
to educational opportunities for displaced homemakers in the
State.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article - Education

Section 16-205(d)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1978 Volume and 1984 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Education

16-205.

(d) (1) For purposes of this subsection, "displaced
homemaker" is an individual who:

[(i) Is over 35;]

[(ii)] (I) Has worked for the family in the
family home;

[(iii)] (II) Is not gainfully employed;

[(iv)] (III) Has had, or would have,
difficulty finding employment;

[(v)] (IV) 1. Has depended on the income of
a family member and has lost that income as the result of
separation, divorce, or the death or disability of that family
member; or

2. Has depended on government assistance
as the parent of dependent children and is no longer eligible for
such assistance; and

[(vi)] (V) Has an annual income that does
not exceed:
