CHAPTER 25

(House Bill 81)

AN ACT concerning

Election Board Members - Qualifications

FOR the purpose of clarifying that members of the board shall be
residents and registered voters in their respective counties
or Baltimore City for a certain time preceding appointment.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 33 - Election Code
Section 2-l(a)
Annotated Code of Maryland
(1983 Replacement Volume)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 33 - Election Code

2-1.

(a) The Governor shall appoint biennially in each county of
the State and in the City of Baltimore, three persons who shall
constitute the board. The members of the board shall be
residents and REGISTERED voters in their respective counties or
in the City of Baltimore for five years preceding their
appointment. Two members shall always be selected from and
represent the majority party and one shall always be selected
from and represent the principal minority party.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1984.
