CHAPTER 122

(Senate Bill 457)

AN ACT concerning

Merit System - Veterans' Preference

FOR the purpose of extending the effective period of a certain
State employment preference given to veterans for certain
service in the armed forces during the time of the Vietnam
conflict and providing an effective date for this Act.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 64A - Merit System
Section 18(c-l)
Annotated Code of Maryland
(1983 Replacement Volume)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 64A - Merit System

18.

(c-1) If a veteran eligible for credit under this section
served in the armed forces of the United States for a period in
excess of six months during the period August 4, 1964 through May
7, 1975, special credit of five points shall be given to the
veteran in all examinations for the initial appointment and
employment with the State. The provisions of this subsection
shall remain in effect until June 30, [1984] 1985, after which
date, without further action by the General Assembly, this
subsection shall have no force or effect.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1984.
