(B)  THE RECIPIENT OF A TEACHER EDUCATION TUITION ASSISTANCE
AWARD SHALL USE THE AWARD AT AN ELIGIBLE INSTITUTION.

(C) THE STATE SCHOLARSHIP BOARD MAY ADOPT RULES AND
REGULATIONS THAT ESTABLISH:

(1) PROCEDURES FOR APPLICATIONS AND RENEWALS OF
TUITION ASSISTANCE; AND

(2) REQUIREMENTS THAT A TUITION ASSISTANCE RECIPIENT
PROVIDE TO THE STATE ADEQUATE FINANCIAL SECURITY TO ASSURE
COMPLIANCE WITH THE TEACHING OBLIGATION MANDATED BY THIS
SUBTITLE.

(D) THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION MAY ADOPT RULES AND
REGULATIONS TO DETERMINE ACADEMIC CRITERIA FOR SELECTION OF
TUITION ASSISTANCE RECIPIENTS FROM ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS.

(E) THE STATE SCHOLARSHIP BOARD MAY ADOPT ANY OTHER RULES
AND REGULATIONS NECESSARY TO IMPLEMENT THIS SUBTITLE.

18-1403.

(A) THE STATE SCHOLARSHIP BOARD ANNUALLY SHALL MAKE NO MORE
THAN 300 4-YEAR TEACHER EDUCATION TUITION ASSISTANCE AWARDS OR AN
EQUIVALENT NUMBER OF 1-, 2-, AND 3-YEAR AWARDS.

(A)  THE STATE SCHOLARSHIP BOARD ANNUALLY SHALL AWARD TO
ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS TUITION ASSISTANCE FOR TEACHER THE EDUCATION
OF PERSONS TO TEACH IN AREAS OF CRITICAL SHORTAGE.

(B)  A RECIPIENT OF A TEACHER EDUCATION TUITION ASSISTANCE
AWARD SHALL:

(1)  BE A RESIDENT OF THIS STATE;

(2)  QUALIFY AS FOLLOWS:

(I) A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT OR HIGH SCHOOL

GRADUATE WHO IS NOT CURRENTLY A COLLEGE STUDENT SHALL HAVE AN
ACADEMIC AVERAGE OF AT LEAST 3.5 ON A 4.0 GRADING SCALE;

(II) A COLLEGE STUDENT SHALL HAVE A CUMULATIVE
GRADE-POINT AVERAGE OF AT LEAST 3.0 ON A 4.0 GRADING SCALE; AND

(I) BE A HIGH SCHOOL OR COLLEGE STUDENT

(I) HAVE EARNED 60 CREDITS OF UNDERGRADUATE
COLLEGIATE EDUCATION AND BE ENROLLED IN OR SIGN A LETTER OF
INTENT TO ENROLL IN A PROGRAM LEADING TO CERTIFICATION TO TEACH
IN AN AREA OF CRITICAL SHORTAGE,HAVE AN ACADEMIC AVERAGE OF AT
LEAST 3.5 ON A 4.0 GRADING SCALE, AND BE SELECTED BY THE STATE
SCHOLARSHIP BOARD ON A COMPETITIVE BASIS AMONG QUALIFIED
APPLICANTS BASED ON ACADEMIC CRITERIA, NOT LIMITED TO
