May 29, 1984
The Honorable Benjamin L. Cardin
Speaker of the House of Delegates
State House
Annapolis, Maryland 21404

Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland
Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill 299.

This bill provides for payment of a fee by existing
businesses in Garrett and Washington Counties that expand to new
locations in the counties.

House Bill 1215, which was passed by the General Assembly
and signed by me on May 29, 1984, accomplishes the same purpose.
Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign House Bill 299.

Sincerely,
Harry Hughes
Governor

House Bill No. 299

AN ACT concerning

Personal Property Tax - Fees by Businesses in
Garrett and Washington Counties

FOR the purpose of providing for payment in Garrett and
Washington counties of a fee by businesses for each new
location.
